Ladies and Gentlemen, today we’re starting a beautiful adventure with British cuisine – shepherd’s pie! Oh mother, this lentil version is even better than the original one with minced meat.
Delicious and simple to make, it’s a great idea for a dinner for your whole family – you can easily make 6 servings from the recipe – full bellies in the house! It’s also very healthy, because lentils are such a great ingredient!

WHAT TO SERVE IT WITH – the dish itself is quite balanced, the lentils provide us with a large dose of protein, many healthy vegetables will make you feel like a king , and these fluffy potatoes, oh man… So good! The only perfect addition here will be a simple crispy lettuce, which will give the extra freshness to the whole thing.
POTATOES – I used type B because it’s such a universal type and they are just right for the casserole. Remember not to try to even out the layer of potatoes when arranging it. The more unevenness, the greater the chance that they will turn golden in the oven.

INGREDIENTS
- 200g of carrots
- 100g of mushrooms
- 100g of celery
- 1 onion
- 200g of red lentils
- a small can of tomato puree
- 3 cloves of garlic
- 1 teaspoon of hot paprika
- 1 teaspoon of oregano
- 1 teaspoon of thyme
- 800g of potatoes
- 100ml of plant-based milk
- 1 tablespoon margarine
- 0.5L of broth
- salt pepper

SHEPHERD’S PIE – PREPARATION
- Chop the onion and garlic, dice the carrots, celery and mushrooms. Peel the potatoes and cook them until they are soft. Boil the lentils until lightly cooked, but still firm.
- Heat the oil in a frying pan and fry the onion and garlic on it, then add the carrots, celery and mushrooms and let it fry for 5 minutes. Add the broth, tomato puree and lentils and stew them all together.
- When the lentils start to fall apart, take everything off the fire. If the mass is too thin, you can thicken it with a roux.
- Turn the boiled potatoes into puree using milk and margarine.
- Pour the lentils to the bottom of the casserole dish, and then gently place the second layer of potatoes. Bake at 180 degrees for 20 minutes.
