These are probably my favorite snacks for parties – vegan pizza pinwheels made of puff pastry. I don’t remember when I ate them for the first time, but I always remember that they were made at our home regularly. For all kinds of family events or just as a nice snack, they’re just great.
It turns out that this snack is incredibly easy to make vegan, the taste is spot on, and the vegan cheese melts perfectly in this case. My valuable advice – be careful with them. Once they come out of the oven it’s hard to resist them, so you’d better keep them away – otherwise you will eat them all before the party.
PUFF PASTRY – I know from experience that in the stores the cheapest one usually does not contain eggs – it is totally and accidentally vegan. Before you use it, however, I recommend putting it somewhere where it will warm up to room temperature. Thanks to this, it will be easier to unroll and it will not crack.
CHEESE – if you are not 100% vegan, don’t lie to yourself – normal cheese is just perfect here. I’m not a fan of vegan cheese substitutes (except for this special one they only sell in Germany), but if you want to use it, buy the already grated one. It is specially prepared so that it melts in the oven easily, which makes it perfect for pizza or this type of snacks.
INGREDIENTS
- 1 pack of puff pastry
- 100ml of passata with spices or ketchup
- 50-70g of vegan cheese
- 5 slices of vegan ham
- 10 black olives
- 100g of mushrooms
VEGAN PIZZA PINWHEELS – PREPARATION
- Take the puff pastry out of the refrigerator to bring it to room temperature. During this time, cut the mushrooms into slices and fry them on the onion in a pan for 5 minutes. Slice the olives.
- If you use passata instead of ketchup, remember to heat it up in a saucepan and season with salt, pepper, oregano and sugar. Wait a few minutes for the sauce to cool down.
- Roll out the puff pastry and cover it with a thin layer of sauce or ketchup. Then arrange the ham slices, olives and mushrooms as it’s shown on the picture. Sprinkle all ingredients with cheese and begin to carefully roll up the dough.
- Remember that it should be tightly rolled (it is easier to cut then). Then cut into rings and put them on a baking tray lined with baking paper.
- Bake the pinwheels for 20-25 minutes at 180 degrees.
